The US Economic Development Administration awarded the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority a grant worth $1,913,000 to help fund a project in Cape Girardeau County.

The grant was awarded on Oct. 24. The EDA describes the grant as follows:

"This EDA investment funds infrastructure improvements to meet the growing rail traffic demands in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, a designated Opportunity Zone. The railroad sustained major flooding damages from previous natural disasters. The project will increase the resiliency and reliability of the rail line by creating an operational system that can transport goods to and from the Port efficiently. Once completed, the project will provide long-term economic growth, support business development, and create new jobs throughout the region."
