Immediate opening for Corrections Officer, Full and Part-time Positions.

This is a position that maintains order and supervises inmates in the Mississippi County Detention Center. The position requires performance of some or all of the following duties, in addition to others as assigned:

Maintain records

Administer fingerprints

Search inmates

Assign inmate quarters.

Supervise inmates’ cleaning activities.

Supervise the feeding of inmates.

Supervise the operation of the jail laundry.

Process incoming jail inmates.

Observe security monitors to watch inmate movement

Respond to questions, complaints, and requests for information bytelephone or in person from inmates, the general public, court personnel,medical staff, attorneys, clergy, officers, employees, and supervisors.

Conduct periodic security inspections and searches of inmates’person and living quarters for unauthorized items including weapons, drugs, and smoking paraphernalia.

Document all activity conducted in assigned position; completedaily activity reports, log books, incident reports, vehicle inspection forms, inmate property receipts, and various other reports and documents associated with routine duties; maintain files and records.

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma or GED.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Must possess a valid driver’s license

Must be a U.S. citizen.

Must not have any Felony or Domestic Violence conviction(s) or any open charges. Must not show a pattern of multiple misdemeanors.

Days and Nights

Work 14 days a month

Every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday off

It is the policy of the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office/Detention Center that all individuals who are accepted for employment will be hired as “at will” employees and serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff, who exercises sole discretion with respect to all hiring, continuations of employment, and terminations. The Sheriff may terminate employment of any employee at any time with or without cause.
