Mississippi County Health Department - Lead Exposure is Harmful During Early Childhood Development and Children Who Crawl Are at Greatest Risk

Lead exposure is harmful during early childhood development and children who crawl are at greatest risk. An estimated 2.6 million homes with children less than 6 years of age have one or more lead-based paint hazards.

Children with low levels of lead in their blood may have no obvious immediate symptoms. If you think your child was exposed to lead, speak with their healthcare provider about getting a blood test.

For information on lead exposure or how to get your child's lead level checked, visit the Mississippi County Health Department in Charleston or East Prairie or call the offices at 573-683-2191 or 573-649-5502.

Read CDC’s Environmental Health Nexus newsletter to learn more about lead exposure and how it affects health. https://bit.ly/2PJpSUE.
