Mississippi County Sheriff's Office - Halloween Safety

HALLOWEEN SAFETY

If you will be taking your kids Trick-or-Treating this year, you not only want them to have fun going door to door stocking up on candy but to stay safe while doing so!

Safe Treats: Tell children not to accept – and especially not to eat – anything that isn't commercially wrapped. Inspect commercially wrapped treats for signs of tampering, such as an unusual appearance or discoloration, tiny pinholes, or tears in wrappers. Throw away anything that looks suspicious.

To be extra safe, experts advise keeping kids out of their candy haul until it can be thoroughly inspected by an adult at home. Can't wait to sink your teeth into something sweet? Try having a snack before heading out to resist the urge to nibble on candy before it has been checked, experts say.

If you have any questions about possible tainted candy, you can contact the:POISON CONTROL CENTER 1-800-222-1222
